Instructions for sewn bowl/basket
Sewing baskets and handbags from cotton cords has become a trend in the "handmade world". Together with our new extra stirong sewing cord, we bring you a simple tutorial for sewn bowl/basket.
Whether you decide to sew a handbag, basket, bowl, placemat or rug, the beginning will be the same…
We will need:
extra strong sewing cord
sewing machine
thread
scissors
leather or other label to cover the ending
To start, pull a piece of core cord (approx 1cm), cut it off and start twisting the cord into a snail. Sew with zig-zag stitch - see video.
When the snail is very small, the handling is a bit more difficult, so when the circle is bigger, go back to the beginning and sew through the middle once more.
Continue sewing in zigzag pattern until desired size is reached in the bottom of the bowl. Then start to tilt the bottom, according to the video.
The more perpendicular the wall of the bowl is to the bottom when sewing, the less the bowl will expand. And keep sewing until you reach the desired height.
Finally, cut the string, sew through the end and cover with a leather label or use a label with a rivet.
We hope that you will be inspired by our sewing bowl / basket tutorial and that you will try our cords for sewing on sewing machine.
