You ask what and how you can make from our extra strong cotton sewing cords. One of the answers is this sewn crossbody bag from cord.

We have prepared a video tutorial for you, showing step by step how to sew such a bag. It is a cheerful summer crossbody bag. We owe the colourfulness to the rainbow-dyed thread, which we rather recommend to more experienced sewers, since with a contrasting thread every single mistake is visible. Beginners should reach for a thread in the colour of the cord, which will hide many an imperfection that simply belongs to the beginnings ;)

What we will need:

  • any basic sewing machine with a zigzag stitch (the higher quality and more professional the machine, the faster you can work, but it is also possible to sew on ordinary machines, you just need to go slower)

  • scissors, needle, tape measure

  • 6mm extra strong sewing cord BIGcord (for a 22cm bag we will need approx. 27 metres)

  • sewing thread

  • leather buckle

  • 2 carabiners

With most sewing projects we start with a snail (spiral) and this case is no different. We gradually enlarge the snail by sewing with a zigzag stitch until we reach the desired size.

Small tip: At the beginning it is difficult to work with a small snail. You can skip stitching the centre. Start sewing only 2cm from the centre, and once your circle is about 10cm, return to the centre. A larger circle is much easier to manipulate under the presser foot.

When our circle is about 23cm, we finish the work and make one more identical one. Then we measure how we would like the side of the bag. Again we sew it together with a zigzag stitch. Finally we make 2 loops for the strap - see video.

We sew all parts together (with a zigzag).

Strap

We already have the base of the bag and continue with the strap. For an approx. 135cm strap we will need 2 carabiners and about 4 metres of our extra strong cotton sewing cord. We thread the cord through the eye of the carabiner. We divide the 4 metres into 3 layers. We do not cut the cord into 3 parts, we just fold it every 130 cm. When finishing the strap we proceed according to the video and finally sew the ends by hand with an inconspicuous thread so that everything holds as it should.

Conclusion

Finally we just sew on the leather buckle, attach the strap and the sewn bag from cord is born :)
