Sewn placemat made from sewing cord

For this sewn placemat tutorial we drew inspiration from spring, which is all about flowers and colours. We went for a colourful look and picked from our range of 6mm BIGcord sewing cords.
For this sewn placemat tutorial we drew inspiration from spring, which is all about flowers and colours. We went for a colourful look and picked from our range of 6mm BIGcord sewing cords in 4 colours: lilac, dog rose, primrose and sage.
If you go for one (or two) colours of BIGcord sewing cord, two balls will be enough to make a set like this – that is 100 metres in total. For a single round sewn placemat about 30 cm in diameter you will use roughly 13 metres of our cord. For a cutlery pouch about 6 metres. You can make a bread basket from the leftovers – about 20 metres.

When choosing the cord colours for your placemat, we also recommend taking into account the colour of your table and kitchen furnishings; by connecting and matching these colours you will achieve a pleasant harmony and look for your kitchen. Are you in a situation where you are about to remodel your kitchen or at least go for a new table, or chairs? No problem – in that case we recommend choosing either neutral colours or, if the placemat is meant to be a spring decoration, spring colours.
